  • World Heritage Day Blogathon

    Posted on November 24, 2017

With the help of the NTEWNI Press Office, we held an international blogathon on World Heritage Day (18 April 2013).  It was a great opportunity to allow INTO members’ voices to be heard and some great stories were told.

    The blogathon began in Fiji:

“As April 18 dawns on the world, the National Trust of Fiji, a member of the INTO, will be the first organisation to kick start the celebrations for World Heritage Day. And it has a special programme planned out.”

Passed through Australia, Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, India, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zanzibar, Malta, Czech Republic, Spain, Saint Helena, Jersey, Guernsey, UK, Portugal, Ireland,  Canada and ended in the United States:

“Since May 2010, I have been conducting the Slave Dwelling Project.  The concept is simple, locate extant former slave dwellings and ask the owners to spend a night in them.  Thirty-eight stays in dwellings located in the states of Alabama, Connecticut, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia have proven successful in bringing much needed attention to these often neglected dwellings.”

You can read the blogs of participating INTO member organisations here.

The blogathon was a great opportunity for INTO members to share experience with a wider audience and an innovative way to celebrate heritage around the world.
