In June, Oliver Maurice joined the UK Overseas Territories Conservation Forum’s biennial Conference, Making the Right Connections, on Grand Cayman. A number of National Trusts were represented and the Montserrat National Trust, on learning about INTO, joined on the spot! Oliver also spent time with the Jamaica National Heritage Trust, for which he reported recommendations on the sites studied, and the Falmouth Heritage Renewal project, which uses teams of volunteers to restore old houses in the historic centre. We hope to build on these connections over the coming years.

The UKOTCF conference sought to draw on similarities and differences in experience across the territories, to provide insights into common challenges, leaving participants better equipped to address local needs.  A great exchange of ideas, success stories and strategies for dealing with conservation issues.  And a chance to forge new partnerships.

Oliver’s report on the Cayman Islands is available here and you can read more about his consultancy visit to Jamaica.
