  • Evening of Balinese Cultural Heritage, Friday 21 July

    Posted on June 28, 2017

INTO, the Indonesian Heritage Trust and the Gianyar Regency are delighted to invite you to an evening celebrating Balinese cultural heritage.

Bali is famous for its cultural landscapes, particularly the subak rice terraces and water temples, inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2012.   But it’s Bali’s wonderful intangible heritage (also recognised by UNESCO) which we will be exploring on Friday 21st July.

Come and find out about the techniques, symbolism and culture surrounding hand-dyed cotton and silk garments from Bali; the importance of cloth in rituals and ceremonies; the designs handed down from generation to generation; and how Indonesians use fabric to demonstrate and honour their cultural identity.

Along with Balinese dance – deeply interwoven within art and ritual on the island – some local snacks and traditional Balinese music, we guarantee you will be spiritually transported 7,700 miles to a beautiful forested volcanic island, steeped in history and tradition … (particularly important if you can’t make the 17th International Conference of National Trusts being held in Bali in September!).

We hope you can join us for what promises to be a glorious, colourful, lively and delicious evening!

Please email bppi.indonesianheritagetrust@gmail.com to reserve a (free) ticket!

    Friday 21 July 2017 • 6pm-8.30pm • Art Workers’ Guild, 6 Queen Square, Bloomsbury, London WC1N 3AT
