This is the third landscape workshop to be held at Villa Golescu and offers an analysis of the relationship between biodiversity and landscape in the Campulung Muscel region. It will work towards improving a general understanding of the biodiversity and the varied ecosystems in the area. Furthermore, the workshop will focus on two specific sites: Mateias Chalkstone Cliffs and the beautiful park around Villa Golescu. As part of this programme, we also aim to produce an educational guide by laying out general observations about the Campulung Muscel area. Previous editions of the workshop included a landscape and photography observatory as well as walking tours in the region.
This workshop includes three main activities listed below. Participants will be grouped in three teams of five and will be attending each activity in turn.

Workshop 1: Landscapes and Habitats from the Campulung region
The objective is to identify and explain the general organisation of the area and the way local ecosystems intertwine.
Workshop 2: A comprehensive inventory of the fauna and flora of the Villa Golescu Park
The aim is to document the biodiversity of the park and to gather all information in an electronic/ downloadable herbarium.
Worksop 3: A comprehensive inventory of the flora and fauna of the Mateias Chalkstone Cliffs
Located 10 kilometres away from Campulung, Mateias crest (part of the chalkstone cliffs) is a significant natural landmark of the area. These steep cliffs are the ideal refuge for many remarkable wildlife species, having the potential to become a great location for both research and responsible tourism.

Villa Golescu, situated in Campulung Muscel, Romania, at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains, is a unique architectural and landscape ensemble. A national heritage building containing a magnificent library, Villa Golescu stands in a beautiful park planted with rare and exotic trees. Built in 1910 by Vasile Golescu, a scion of one of Walachia’s oldest families, with a history dating back to the fifteenth century, the villa is a fine example of the neo-Romanian architectural style with Albesti stone window frames, a harmonious terrace and simply decorated arcades.
In 2001, the villa was donated by the Golescu sisters, Irina and Elena, to Pro Patrimonio in the hope that future generations would have the opportunity to learn more about the rich biodiversity and history of Romania. Since then, PP has carried out important renovation and restoration works transforming Villa Golescu into a comfortable guest house as well as a venue for cultural events whilst retaining the restored original furniture, paintings and ornaments.
