The working holiday: The remains of the Iron Age Hill Fort in Travesas is one of the most impressive historical sites in the A Coruña region. Covering an area of around 12 acres, it’s considered to be a small town. Its location marks a strategic point on an ancient route (known as the ‘English Way’) connecting the coastal city of A Coruña to the pilgrimage destination of Santiago de Compostela. Objects and artefacts from the British and Mediterranean coasts have been found at the site: a result of its unique history.
Archaeological excavations have been conducted at two of the Hill Fort entrances. These now need to be consolidated to prevent further degradation and prepare the site for public visits. Join us on the first part of a planned three-year programme – restoring the entrance to the main compartment. You’ll be part of an international team and there will be plenty of time to discover the rich heritage of this fascinating region.
Accommodation: Full board at a local hostel in shared rooms. You will need to bring a sleeping bag and pillow.
