Why Am I Walking the Walk…
I am walking to raise money and awareness around the global cause of heritage protection and the role heritage can play in all our lives. 120 years ago one of the founders of the National Trust, Octavia Hill, saw a need to share the built and natural beauty of Britain with those who had the least access to it. She believed that spiritual well being was as important as physical well being, and that time spent in places of outstanding beauty should be shared by all for the benefit of all. This is why the National Trust looks after special places for everyone, forever. Over the years this messaged has travelled the globe and is now shared by over 40 different, unique and wonderful National Trusts.
I visited Galicia with the International National Trust Organization (INTO) in 2013 and fell in love with the country, its people and its history. So when the opportunity came to experience Galicia again, but this time at a much slower pace and along this historic pilgrim route, I jumped at the chance.
Money we raise by walking this walk will go to support INTO. It will go toward sharing experiences and opportunities with all our member organisations and toward better communication between our world-wide Trusts. INTO is a large family and I am very proud to be raising money for this global partnership that protects and shares our heritage.
